On May 17, 2008, the news will resume.
This is not news.
In the meantime, there are two Jim Clements and the Right to Die gigs happening. We/they are playing this coming Saturday afternoon, May 19, at RoTa at Notting Hill Arts Club. It's at 4pm, and it's FREE. Next up is Tuesday May 29 at the Betsey Trotwood in Clerkenwell. The new band is hot, hot shit, and these gigs are sure to be barnburners. All info at JC+RtD's site.
Lastly, press is starting to come in for Don't You Want Me, Gooblar?, and some very smart people have had some very nice things to say about the record.
Artrocker.com sez:
"These guys have a smirky, amusing slant on things, and a crunchy sound that would go well in a hardcore salad dish. The excellent 'Uh Oh' in particular sounds like Frank Black fronting a deranged Weezer, and deserves to be playlisted at all the summer barbeques this summer!"
The mighty Said the Gramophone likes "Twentieth Century":
"After fifty years of American bands that sound English, Gooblar's a London band that play a very USA pop-rock. Someone will need to grow some cornfields along Oxford Street, sell hotdogs at Picadilly Circus, and then invite Gooblar to rock out on a roof. "Twentieth Century" is about missing the 20th C. It has handclaps, "oohs", a singalong chorus, & an unstoppable sense of fun. Every rhyme's right-on, every guitar-riff like that little push when you jump on your bike. . . . It's pure apple-and-chrome hooray."
Hooray!
YES! It's finally done! Don't You Want Me,
Gooblar? is at long last pressed, printed,
stomped, tripped, trapped, tricked, packaged, shipped,
ETC. Even though it only took us a month to make, it
felt like a lifetime (maybe because it really
did take a lifetime). We sweated over this
record like it was our very own baby, and are proud to
send it out into the world, screaming and falling over,
like a baby.
Tracklist:
1. Twentieth Century
2. Girl
3. The Times That You're In
4. Uh-oh
5. Snake in the Grass
As you can maybe guess by those underlined
"hyper-links" above, we've made four out of the five
songs available for download. Please, give these songs
a home, take them into your living room, let them
unwind a little, maybe take their shoes off. Those who
want "Snake in the Grass," or those who prefer a
physical cd with a cover and case to a series of ones
and zeroes can purchase a copy from us at one of our
shows.
For instance, our next one. We're having a CD Release
Party on Tuesday May 15 at Industry in Shoreditch.
We'll have the aforementioned CDs, some special,
super-secret surprises, and the readiness to rock that
you should expect from Gooblar by now. Check the
gigs page for details.
We'd like to encourage anyone who likes the new
recordings to send us a note via our contact page, tell us what you
think, and maybe join the mailing list to be kept
abreast of all yr Gooblar action.
For those that weren't there, let me report that last Friday's gig at The Good Ship was a barn-burner. Their Fight Club-style pit and all those eager supporters of the arts made for a perfect environment for Gooblar's brand of madness. Our energy was way up, having been sitting around since 5:30 (stage time was after 10), and, I think it's fair to say we left everything we had on the stage. Thanks to all who made it out--we had a great time.
The e.p. is nearly finished now; we're heading back to the studio on Monday night to finish mixing and to master the record, so it will be ready for everyone very, very soon. I don't want to give too much (ok, anything) away, but I'll just say that everything's sounding great, and we're totally excited to let everyone hear it. This week, aside from attempting to get back to our normal lives after the intensity of the studio, we've been putting the finishing touches on the cd cover, printing up labels, buying blank cds, etc. It's all ready to go. Keep yr browsers pointed at this very site for all relevant details.
We've got a new show added to the gigs page (May 15 at Industry in Shoreditch), and will have a couple more to announce soon. This is gonna be a busy time for Gooblar, and we hope you're along for the ride.
Also: Look! New Pictures!
In the coming weeks, Gooblar will finally enter the studio to record their long-awaited debut ep. We've been working really hard on the songs, rehearsing them to within inches of their lives, and are now toned and ready for the grueling recording sessions. The cd will contain 4 or 5 songs (whichever comes first), and will obviously fucking rule. We will, of course, keep you posted as we progress, but just know that we're aiming to make it as great as possible.
Potential titles include 'Too Drunk to Gooblar', 'Going to the Gooblar in my Mind', 'GoobTube', and 'Gooblar? More Like Gayblar'.
After seeing Jim set up his own site, I knew that it was time to stop putting it off, and finally make a proper website for Gooblar (myspace is sooo 2006). So this'll be the place to find out what's happening in the world of Gooblar: the news, any gigs coming up, new music being recorded (more on that soon), and (we hope) some surprise goodies to keep you coming back. At the moment you can download three of Dave's demos, check out a video from one of our earliest performances, and see lots of great pictures. Please, we're paying for the bandwidth, so someone should probably use it.
